Entergy's Palisades plant restarts after leak

COVERT TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) — Entergy Corp.' says the power generator at its Palisades nuclear plant in Michigan is back on line after a shutdown for an internal leak of radioactive steam.

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission says the leak was contained to the building. The leak forced operators of the plant in Van Buren County's Covert Township to remove it from service Sunday.

The NRC says the leak contained "very low levels of tritium" and will be treated as radioactive liquid waste.

The plant says the leak couldn't be isolated or repaired with the plant in service.

Entergy says it returned to service at 1:09 p.m. Wednesday. Spokesman Mark Savage says it will gradually increase to full power over the next several days.
