Steven Spielberg is back at it again with the new trailer for his forthcoming movie, Ready Player One. The film is an adaptation of Ernest Cline’s bestselling book.

The storyline takes place in a futuristic dystopian seemingly industrial world in Columbus, Ohio in 2045. It chronicles Wade Watts’ (played by Tye Sheridan) quest of finding an esteemed easter-egg left behind by technologic genius James Halliday (Mark Rylance).

Halliday created a virtual world that is fueled by escapism and powered by the internet titled, OASIS. After his death, a contest is started leaving Watts as one its main contestants playing to win complete control over the OASIS, and a hefty half a trillion dollars.

Halliday, who’s like a modern-day Steve Jobs, was also obsessed with 80’s pop-culture. And in efforts to live up to Halliday’s genius; Watts immerses himself in learning everything he can about the decade. As pointed out by New Rockstars, there are a slew of 80’s artifacts littered all over the film, and this new trailer. For instance, there are small glimpses of a control stick from the video game, Commodore 64, which came out in 1982.

The OASIS looks like a virtual fantasy where it swallows normal civilians up into an imaginary world where anything, and everything is possible. Like Marvel’s Doctor Strange and Guardians Of The Galaxy 1 and 2, Spielberg is infusing a sci-fi storyline with old and new pop-culture references paired with a compelling storyline (Watts is an orphan), which makes for an even more entertaining story on screen.

Ready Player One is slated to hit theaters on March 30, 2018.
