The Journey SE and Crossroad trims come with an underpowered four-cylinder engine and a four-speed automatic transmission that's best avoided. Some extra cash can score you a more powerful V-6 and six-speed automatic transmission, but even that combination lags behind the competition when it comes to acceleration.

What’s New for 2019?

The Journey's only engine and transmission update is that the entry-level SE trim can now be paired with the V-6 and six-speed automatic instead of just the underpowered four-cylinder engine and four-speed automatic. Previously, this option was only offered on the SXT model and up. But since that version has been cut for 2019, the available V-6 powertrain trickles down to the base model.

When it comes to performance, the GMC Acadia came out on top in this group.
