Some people consider the E39-generation BMW M5 to be the best M5 ever made. With its big V8, lovely balance, and fantastic sound, it had all the makings for a perfect sport sedan. But what happens if you take out that 5.0-liter block out, drop in a turbocharged 2JZ straight-six engine, and slap on some monstrous fender flares? A lot. A lot happens.

Technica Motorsports, the same folks who built that E92 V8-powered E46 M3 we showed you last week, went all out on this build. It's a 2000 M5, complete with a full 2JZ straight-six swap, along with a widebody kit and huge 335 section-width tires on all four corners. It makes 800 horsepower to the wheels in its current tune, but the owner thinks it could push 1200 horses once everything's sorted out.

Matt Farah of The Smoking Tire got the chance to hop in the driver's seat to experience what a 2J-powered BMW is like, and it seems like he loves it. Sure, that sweet V8 is gone, but when you're pushing four-digit power figures, does it really matter?
