Engaged couple found murdered in luxury Boston apartment
Authorities investigating the brutal murder of two doctors in their luxury Boston apartment believe it is likely they knew their killer.
The bodies of engaged couple Dr Lina Bolanos, 38, and Dr Richard Field, 49, were discovered by police in the Macallen Building in South Boston on Friday.
Officers were called to the apartment block, which is one of Boston’s most luxurious, after Dr Field sent a desperate text message to a friend saying there was a gunman in the house.
When police arrived, it was too late for the couple and their bodies were found. The police are yet to confirm the cause of death.
A suspect, 30-year-old Bampumim Teixeira, was arrested at the scene. He was due to appear in court on Monday in connection with the double murder.
Commissioner of the Boston Police Department, William B Evans, said they believe that “somehow there was some type of knowledge of each other” between the victims and their attacker, though that connection remains unclear.
Dr Field was an anaesthesiologist at North Shore Pain Management and Dr Bolanas was a paediatric anaesthesiologist at Massachusetts Eye and Ear. Tributes continue to pour in for the couple, who were highly valued members of the medical community.
John Fernandez, President & CEO of Massachusetts Eye and Ear, said: “The entire Mass Eye and Ear community is deeply saddened by the deaths of Dr Lina Bolanos and her fiancé.
“Dr Bolanos was an outstanding paediatric anaesthesiologist and a wonderful colleague in the prime of both her career and life. We will do all we can to support their families and our staff members who are processing this senseless tragedy and grieving an enormous loss.”
In a statement, North Shore Pain Management confirmed the loss of Dr Field with “profound sadness and heavy hearts”. They said he was known for his “tireless devotion” to his patients, staff and colleagues.
They added: “He was a valued member of the medical community and a tremendous advocate for his patients. His tragic and sudden passing leaves an inescapable void in all of us. Our deepest thoughts are with his friends and family.”
