ENDUI planned again for Calf Fry

May 1—ENDUI Oklahoma has announced it will have sobriety checkpoints in Payne County for this weekend's annual Calf Fry Festival.

Calf Fry begins today and ends Saturday.

ENDUI with Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Stillwater Police Department, OSU Police Department and Payne County Sheriff's Office had previously set up saturation patrols — not checkpoints — for many years to thwart drunk driving during festivals and special events.

However, this year a checkpoint will be held Friday with ABLE joining the ENDUI team and above-mentioned agencies.

Efforts will run between 2 p.m. to 4 a.m. each day.

In 2021, 407 people were killed in drug and/or alcohol-related crashes in Oklahoma.

"None of these crashes were accidents. Every death could have been prevented if the impaired driver had made the smart choice not to drive while under the influence," wrote the Oklahoma Highway Safety Office in a press release.

The Calf Fry has thousands of people and a large number of Oklahoma State University students, who celebrate the event as the last party with friends before the end of the semester.

The ENDUI Oklahoma program is a program of the Oklahoma Highway Safety Office and is funded through impaired driving grants from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
