Employee at Caldwell County elementary school accused of stealing $10,000: Records

CALDWELL COUNTY, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — An employee at a Caldwell County elementary school has been charged with felony embezzlement, according to court records.

Tykia Caldwell Davenport is accused of stealing $10,000 from Gamewell Elementary School located along Morganton Blvd in Lenoir, documents show.

Authorities said it’s still very early in the investigation, but the theft was reported by the Board of Education on Friday, March 22. Davenport was arrested on Tuesday, March 26.

Davenport was placed under a $5,000 secured bond, which she made at the magistrate’s office, so there is no available booking photo, authorities explained.

Court documents state Davenport “unlawfully, willfully, and feloniously did embezzle money, belonging to Gamewell Elementary School.”

Davenport had been entrusted to receive the money before she reportedly took it for herself.
