Emotionally disturbed Brooklyn teen charged with stabbing sister to death in July

An emotionally disturbed teen has been charged with stabbing his sister to death at their home in Brooklyn in July, police said Tuesday.

The 17-year-old suspect, whose name was not released because of his age, allegedly stabbed his 26-year-old sister, Shanelle Colquhoun, in the neck and arms the night of July 24 at their East Flatbush home, police said.

He was arrested for murder and weapon possession Monday.

Medics rushed the victim from the home on Beverley Road near E. 48th St. to Kings County Hospital, but she could not be saved. Neighbors said the sister used a wheelchair.

The brother was taken into custody at the time. It was not immediately clear Tuesday why he was not charged then.

The brother has no prior arrest record, but officers have responded four times to calls describing him as emotionally disturbed, police said.

Earlier on the day of the murder, police sources said at the time, the teen assaulted his mother. She called 911, but the teen left before police got there.

Officers filed a report and left, and the mother went shopping only to get a frantic call from her daughter.

“He’s back!” the daughter told her mother, sources said. “He’s back!”

“All the time he’s fighting with his mom, so that’s why the police come every two or three days,” neighbor Hossain Arif, 23, said at the time. “I think he’s mentally sick.”
