Emmys 2018: How To DIY Natalia Dyer’s Pearly White Manicure

When it comes to red carpet glamour, Natalia Dyer has left us literally seeing stars. From her beautiful Zodiac-themed gown to a floral-covered red dress, the Stranger Things star isn't afraid to have some fun with her look. For her latest trip down the red carpet at the 2018 Emmys, she turned to all things gold, delivering on a moment that mixed elements of past and present trends.

Although Natalia's Emmys dress didn't incorporate any Zodiac-inspiration, the gown did feature beautiful golden details. Thanks to her soft, voluminous curls, full lashes, and lightly dusted lids, the actor looked straight out of old Hollywood. She extended the sparkle featured on the gown into her choice of manicure, and revealed a pearly, sparkly polish on the red carpet.

In an interview with Teen Vogue, Natalia shared some of the details behind her look. For Emmys night, she worked with stylist Brad Goreski and a glam team that included Essie Celebrity Manicurist Steph Stone. In a day of preparations that Natalia admits can get "hectic," she started getting glam around 11 a.m. "It usually starts with the dress and then we start throwing ideas around for the rest," Natalia said. "As soon as I tried on the dress, Brad and I immediately thought the classic Veronica Lake look with a modern twist would be perfect."

Steph echoed Natalia's sentiments on keeping the overall look modern. She explained that they chose the the nail polish shade Venture to the Venue from Essie's new Concrete Glitters Collection (launching October 2018) because of its "unique glitter texture." The shimmery white polish was definitely playful, but its iridescent sheen also worked to further highlight the touches of detailed glitter found on Natalia's dress.

In order to replicate the mani at home, Steph said it's important to follow polishing steps carefully. "First, you want to have a clean nail bed to start and then always use a base coat, two coats of color and a top coat if applicable," she said. "Following all steps will give you the longest lasting manicure instead of skipping any and experiencing chips by the end of the day."

While Natalia's nails were all covered with Essie's Venture to the Venue, Steph pointed out that it's OK to mix and match polish colors. "I always recommend swatching a different color on each nail," she said. "You might be surprised with a shade after applying it. Aways go with what makes you most excited to look at."

This latest moment of red carpet beauty was certainly a lot different from what Natalia is usually rocking on Stranger Things, but she did share her excitement for her character Nancy's continued beauty evolution. "Red carpet glam always takes a good bit of time, and I obviously have more say over it [than on Stranger Things]," she said. "However, I do think this season Nancy has stepped up her beauty game, it’s very '80s."

It remains to be seen whether we'll spot Natalia with a fresh mani in any upcoming episodes of Stranger Things, but the star did share her advice for those looking to up their modern-day glam game. If you're struggling to decide on a polish color, Natalia had a pretty ingenious suggestion. "Pick a shade that will make you feel happy when you look at it," she said. "A good mani is a small way of making you smile." She continued with the beauty wisdom, reminding Teen Vogue readers that polish with glitter never goes out of style.
