Emmet County voters approve senior millage, township proposals pass

Voters in Emmet County passed the only county-wide proposal on the ballot in the Aug. 2 primary election.

According to unofficial results, voters approved the renewal of the senior services millage by a vote of 6,436 to 2,866. The tax will extend the half-mill property tax levy for another four years with the funding at the same level it has been.

Township millages

Springvale Township's road renewal millage passed with 444 yes votes and 170 no votes. The millage will extend the existing millage of up to 1 mill for another four years.

In Littlefield Township, voters approved a proposal that will allow the township to impose 1 mill to go toward emergency services between 2022 and 2025. The proposal passed with 448 yes votes and 248 no votes. In the first year, the township will raise approximately $146,394.57.

Out of 30,717 registered voters in Emmet County, 10,482 cast ballots, making voter turnout for the Aug. 2 election 34 percent. This is a significant increase from the nearly 23 percent turnout in the November 2021 election with very little change in the number of registered voters.
