Emmerdale has aired empowering scenes for Chas Dingle following a clash with Kerry Wyatt.

There's been no love lost between the two women in the past, as Chas had an affair with Kerry's ex-fiancé Al Chapman a few years ago. The two have since made amends — but underlying tension has remained.

Wednesday's (May 1) emotional episode saw Chas returning to the Woolpack following her recent breast cancer surgery.

Chas was welcomed back by the supportive Dingle family, yet insisted that she wanted everything to go back to normal now that her surgery was in the past.

However, it wasn't long before Chas was blindsided with an insensitive comment from Kerry. Kerry tried to joke with Chase about the prostheses she was wearing following her mastectomy.

"What a rack," Kerry quipped. "She wouldn't be wearing them if she didn't want to get noticed."

Chas and Liam were taken aback by Kerry's comments, with Liam finding an excuse to walk away rather than reply. Charity tried to get Kerry to back off, but Chas lashed out.

"That's the essence of me, isn't it, boiled down? A pair of breasts," Chas asked her.

She gave Kerry a reality check, reminding her that it was incredibly uncomfortable to have to wear these prostheses.

"If [people] see me with a flat chest, they have to face the fact that I've had cancer and heaven forbid because there's nothing more unattractive than a woman whose body isn't absolutely perfect in every single way," Chas sarcastically declared.

"This is my body and I'm proud of it because it has grown three children and hopefully it will continue beating off this faulty gene. There is more to me than a pair of breasts!"

Chas then took out her prostheses and slammed them down on the bar before walking off.

Back in the living quarters, Charity supported Chas as she admitted the prostheses weren't working for her.

"I am who I am," she said. "I am a woman who has had a double mastectomy and I am proud of that. I am proud of my decision."

Chas explained that the area where she was struggling most was looking at her chest after the bandages came off. Charity stood by Chas's side as she bravely removed her top and faced her new reality.

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
