Emmerdale star Sam Hall has responded to his character Samson Dingle's rumoured death storyline.

The actor, who has starred in the soap for almost 15 years, has recently been tipped to leave the Dales.

The Sun reported that Hall would be exiting the show when his character is apparently killed off, though an Emmerdale spokesperson declined to comment on the speculation when contacted by Digital Spy.

Hall has now set the record straight in a new interview with Inside Soap, confirming that Samson won't be killed, as well as teasing that the long-running character will be involved in "good stories".

"Well, I don't want to give too much away, but Samson has some really big stuff coming up. However, don't worry, as he's definitely not being killed off!" he said.

"There are some good stories coming up for him, and I was very excited when I read the scripts."

Hall first appeared as Samson at the age of five after he took over the role from Charlie Pell. Last year, Samson faced a dramatic arc as he struggled with his responsibilities as a young father, before eventually shunning Amelia Spencer and baby Esther.

On his reaction to Samson and Amelia's baby storyline, Hall said: "I thought it sounded like a brilliant storyline, and it was so good to film gritty stuff because it was all of us young members of the cast together.

"And then the conflict between Amelia's family and the Dingles was great because there were lots of heated moments. Daisy [Campbell, who plays Amelia] and I enjoyed filming all those scenes together."

The actor went on to reveal that he enjoys exploring the "mean" side of Samson's character, despite his "good side" always shining through.

"Like with the baby storyline, he was worrying about Amelia being okay for Esther because Samson obviously lost his mum [Alice Dingle] — and he didn't want his kid to grow up without a mum. So, he can get angry, but his intentions are always right in the end," he said.

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
