Emmerdale star discusses long-term future of Will Taylor role

Emmerdale star Dean Andrews has addressed his character Will Taylor's long-term future on the soap, revealing that he feels "very settled".
Speaking to Digital Spy and other media, the actor, who joined the show in 2019, explained that he sees the Emmerdale cast and crew as a family, and that he would be happy to stay for as long as the producers would like him to.
"With other stuff that we do [other acting jobs], we're there for three to five months or whatever, and then we all disappear," he said.
"I remember before I came in and hearing people say it's like a family at Emmerdale and thinking, 'Blah, blah, blah', but it really is. Because we are together.

"I definitely see Claire (King, who plays Will's wife Kim Tate) more than I see my own wife and Olivia (Bromley, who stars as Will's daughter Dawn Fletcher) more than I see my own daughters, so we are like a little family. I do feel settled here.
"When the producers initially asked me to come in and asked me how long I'd like to stay and I said, 'If I come in now, you'll have to kick me out'. I'll stay as long as they want me to stay, but how long they want to stay is up to them.
"I'm of an age now where I'm in my 60s, so I'll probably retire after this job."
Andrews also joked about playing "one of the few men who have tamed Kim Tate", saying, "Don't tell her I've tamed her!"
Revealing that he and co-star King "both like" the dynamic in Will and Kim's marriage, he said: "I think Claire likes that she's got someone quite steady with her, somebody who I hope is on a level feelings wise and presence wise. You know, who isn't just a little lap dog.

"I'm hoping we've integrated into being a proper partnership and we have always tried to get them to cement that feeling in the relationship rather than me being the little man if you like."
The actor also spoke about the departure of Will's former partner Harriet Finch, played by Katherine Dow Blyton, after Harriet was killed off in a deadly storm in 2022.
"She was great, a really good actor, really down to earth," Andrews said. "It's one of the sadder things here - a lot of people have lost their partners along the way. I know Claire misses a couple of the boys she's worked with, but it's just part of losing good people along the way."

Andrews is currently very busy on screen, with Will being involved in some major storylines playing out.
Last week saw Will being unexpectedly reunited with his ex-wife Rose, who walked out on him and daughter Dawn when Dawn was a child.
While Andrews confirmed that Will doesn't have any romantic feelings for his ex and is keen to see the back of her, that doesn't mean that her presence isn't going to cause trouble for him and Kim.
Teasing upcoming scenes, he said: "There are little moments that don't mean anything to Will, but they mean something to Kim and she starts to worry she's going to lose me."
Will is also trying his best to support Dawn, after she received the heartbreaking news that her baby son, Evan, has leukaemia.
