Emmerdale star Danny Miller has spoken about the reaction his character Aaron Dingle has received since returning to the ITV soap.

Aaron made a permanent return to Emmerdale back in October, when it was revealed that he was the mystery character who was being held captive by his uncles Cain Dingle and Caleb Miligan.

Though he has calmed down a bit since discovering his mum Chas's cancer diagnosis, upon returning to the village, Aaron revealed himself to have a new darker side. But this darker side hasn't been a hit with viewers.

Speaking to Inside Soap magazine about Aaron's behaviour, Danny said: "Unacceptable is the word! I know a lot of people haven't enjoyed him as much as I thought they would, if I'm honest.

"But Aaron has tamed a little bit. We're starting to see a bit more of the old Aaron in there. He was just a very angry person. It was hard every scene to be calling somebody names, fighting somebody, sitting in make-up for cuts and bruises!

"But Aaron had to come back into the village and make an impact."

Danny also opened up on which partner he thinks Aaron has been most suited to, and it will be no surprise that his answer was Robert – a pairing viewers labelled Robron.

"You could almost say they weren't suited to each other because they were two completely different characters," the actor said. "But together they were a force to be reckoned with. They loved each other so much.

"I think that was the first person Aaron genuinely loved, especially because he shared so many secrets about what he'd been through with Robert."

Danny added that he'd even tried to entice Ryan Hawley (who played Robert) back. "I'd be lying if I said I hadn't tried. I miss Ryan so much. I miss him every day when I'm in work."

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
