Emily Florez says goodbye to ABC4, dedicates time to family

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — Emily Florez, a long-time beloved ABC4 anchor, is saying goodbye to the station.

Emily has had an impressive career in the news industry over the past 15 years, serving most recently as a main weekday night anchor for the past five years at ABC4 in Salt Lake City.

“Emily has been an invaluable member of the ABC4 team, bringing dedication, passion, and a wealth of knowledge to the workplace. And she got to do it all in the community she grew up in,” ABC4 General Manager and VP Mark Danielson said.

Emily is a Utah native who graduated in broadcast journalism from Brigham Young University before helping to launch the School of Communications Student Ambassador program, which helps journalism students network within the Utah community.

Emily chose to leave news to dedicate more time to her family, including her three children. While she said she feels it’s the right choice in her heart, it was a difficult decision to step away from the anchor desk.

“It’s a mixed bag, all the emotions, right?” said Florez. “I’m so grateful for the time I had here. I feel like I, every night, put my heart out there to try to give people a piece of it from the desk.”

A Taylorsville native, Florez said it meant the world to her to be able to give the news to her own community and extended family on a daily basis.

“I have a lot of pride for having represented them,” she said.

“We will miss Emily dearly. She was the heart of our newsroom,” ABC4 News Director Nancy Bauer said. “But we also respect her immensely for making the tough decision to stay at home and take care of her family. We wish her nothing but the best, and in this business, you never say goodbye, just so long for now.”
