Emergency preparedness fair set for May 16 in Yuba County

May 6—The Yuba County Office of Emergency Services will host the fourth annual Be Prepared Fair on May 16 in Brownsville to share emergency resources with foothill residents ahead of wildfire season.

Over 30 local and state agencies will participate in order to connect with residents and answer questions about preparedness. Residents can expect to see the Yuba County Sheriff's Office, Plumas National Forest Service, foothill fire stations and pet preparedness groups, among others.

Emergency vehicles and equipment will be on display for adults and children, including fire engines, sheriff vehicles and a helicopter. Those in attendance will have the opportunity to build an emergency go-bag with starter items to create or improve a preparedness kit, Yuba County officials said.

"Our goal for the 'Be Prepared Fair' is to create a casual, family-friendly event where residents can speak face-to-face with those who keep our communities safe," Yuba County Office of Emergency Services Manager Oscar Marin said in a statement. "While the children are off exploring the fire engines, parents can get their questions answered by our sheriff, firefighters and folks from other emergency response agencies."

Food trucks will also be featured at the event. Community-donated door prizes will be available for participants, including fire extinguishers and a weed eater.

"With the food, prizes and invaluable safety resources, this isn't an event to miss," Marin said.

The Be Prepared Fair will be held from 5 to 7:30 p.m. on May 16 at the Ponderosa Community Center, located at 17103 Ponderosa Way in Brownsville. For more information, visit www.BePreparedYuba.org.
