Emergency declaration for Killian water lifted, boil advisory still in place

KILLIAN, La. (BRPROUD) — Livingston Parish President Randy Delatte has lifted the emergency declaration for the Town of Killian. However, the town is still under a boil advisory as the water system issues are being fixed.

The advisory will last until the Louisiana Department of Health tests the water to confirm that it is safe, according to a post from Livingston Parish Government. Officials said that engineers have been testing and helping the Killian Water System.

“Results from multiple samples taken from the distribution system have shown that the water tested negative for total coliforms, which are naturally occurring bacteria used as an indicator of potential bacterial presence,” the post said.

The town has received specific guidance from LDH to ensure the safe operation of the water system.

Delatte issued an emergency declaration in April after the water system failure but state officials said it was not needed.

“We appreciate the donations from GOHSEP and others in the private sector to ensure the public has safe drinking water during the required testing and repairs,” the post said. “Our office is confident our partners in Killian will take the necessary steps to bring the system online and fully restore service to the public.”
