Spencer has held the position since December 6, 2004, and is now in her fifth term. However, in March, she lost her re-election bid to Angela Sigmon Henson by less than 300 votes.

According to the county, the Register of Deeds manages public records that allow the owner of an interest property to give public notice of that ownership.

The position also holds birth and death records from Catawba County, issues marriage licenses, and administers oaths to notaries.
