Pop star Sir Elton John took to Twitter thanking Kansas City fans who showed up to his latest show — but his message contained an error quickly noticed on social media.

“What a great night @tmobilecenter in Arkansas City! Thank you to everyone who came down - you were all amazing,” the rock-and-roll icon tweeted early Wednesday, along with several photographs from inside the T-Mobile Center.

The message was posted on John’s official Twitter account. But it was not immediately clear whether the artist wrote the tweet himself.

The 74-year-old British musician appeared in Kansas City on Tuesday night as part of the Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour. It was his first local appearance in nearly three years, and came after an earlier concert date had been postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Roughly 250 miles south, there is an Arkansas City, Kansas, near the Oklahoma border. Another is in Arkansas along the Mississippi River.

In replies to John’s official Twitter account on Wednesday, a few social media observers — including show-goers — lightheartedly pointed to the mistake.

“Oh dear. You were in Kansas City. Wrong state and wrong city,” one person posted.

“T-Mobile Center is in Kansas City :). I was there, and had a blast!!” another added.

“Hope everyone in Arkansas City, MO enjoyed the show!” said another.

The flub is certainly not the first from a non-native. Geographical errors are a sensitive spot for locals — and a frequent mistake made by those unfamiliar with the area.

In 2020, following the Kansas City Chiefs’ Super Bowl victory, then-President Donald Trump congratulated the team for representing “the Great State of Kansas.” The tweet was later corrected.
