Elsa and Anna on ice: Disney show will thrill and chill Wichita audiences this weekend

Every year, Disney on Ice makes a stop in Wichita so parents can treat their tiny movie fans to a couple of hours of seeing their favorite characters glide across the ice.

This weekend, the touring production returns for shows that run today through Sunday. It will thrill fans of Elsa, Anna, Cinderella, Aladdin, Moana — even Mickey and Minnie.

That’s not the only fun thing happening in Wichita this weekend, though. People can gaze at the early-bird tulips in Belle Plaine, adopt a new pet at a reptile expo or even catch a classic ballet.

Following is a list of some of the best bets for entertainment in Wichita this weekend:

Disney on Ice

Friday through Sunday, Intrust Bank Arena, 500 E. Waterman

Disney On Ice is back in Wichita with a show called “Magic in the Stars,” which features characters like Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Cinderella, Aladdin, Elsa and Moana portrayed by world-class skaters. Remaining show times are 7 p.m. today, 11 a.m., 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday, and 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Sunday. Tickets range from $15 to $90 and are available at www.selectaseat.com, by phone at 316-755-7328 and in person at the Select-a-Seat box office inside Intrust Bank Arena. Fans also can buy extra tickets for a “pre-show character experience” designed for ages 2 and over. That ticket, which ranges in price from $55 to $65, allows fans to interact with Elsa and Mirabel from “Encanto” and create a craft. It’s also available at Select-a-Seat.

Arboretum opening early

Starting Sunday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Sundays, open until 7 p.m. Thursdays, 301 N. Line St., Belle Plaine

Spring has sprung at Bartlett Arboretum, and the tulips are already in bloom. So the venue in Belle Plaine is opening for the season a little early. Starting on Sunday and running through April 28, its hours will be 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Sundays, but it will stay open until 7 p.m. on Thursdays. After that, it will resume its normal weekend-only hours: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. Admission is $10 a person, though children are free if accompanied by an adult. The venue is also busy planning for its big annual springtime event, Art at the Arb, which happens April 13-14 and includes music, food, artists and live music.

“Giselle”

7 p.m. Saturday, The Orpheum, 200 N. Broadway

The Grand Kyiv Ballet will be in town on Saturday for one performance of the classical ballet “Giselle,” which is about a peasant girl who dies of a broken heart after she finds out that her true love is not who he says he is. Dancers will include members of the National Opera Ballet of Ukraine. Ed Bassmaster at Century II

8 p.m. Friday, Mary Jane Teall Theater, Century II, 225 W. Douglas

Comedian Ed Bassmaster, a YouTube star whose real name is Edwin Rodriguez, will perform at Century II’s Mary Jane Teall Theater on Friday with opening act DaneTheGreatt. Bassmaster is known for the comedy videos he posts where he pranks people while posing as various characters. He previously starred on the CMT reality series “The Ed Bassmaster Show,” which aired in 2016. The show starts at 8 p.m., and doors open at 7 p.m. General admission tickets are $25, and a meet-and-greet ticket is $75. Fans also can pay $125 for a ticket that also includes a private, five-minute one-on-one meeting with the comedian. Reptile extravaganza

If you or your kids are into reptiles, amphibians or invertebrates — or want to have one as a pet — a trip to the Central Kansas Reptile Expo in Derby might be in order. People can get pet reptiles from breeders at the event or shop for supplies for the pets they already have. They also can visit with reptile experts on a variety of topics. It runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at The Venue at Madison Avenue Central Park. Admission at the door is $10, $5 for children 6-15, free for children 5 and under.

Singing Quakers Home Concert

7:30 p.m. Friday, 2 p.m. Saturday, East Heights United Methodist Church, 4407 E. Douglas

The Friends University Fine Arts department is putting on its annual Singing Quakers Home Concert this weekend. The show, featuring the university’s legendary singing group, happens at 7:30 p.m. Friday and 2 p.m. Saturday at East Heights United Methodist Church. The show will feature songs with themes of love, celebration, storytelling, community and glorifying God.
