Elmore County primary voters pick new probate judge, county commissioner

WETUMPKA − There will be a new probate judge and county commissioner in Elmore County, following Tuesday’s GOP primary elections.

In the probate race, attorney Jason Britt took the nomination with 8,271 votes to challenger Vicki Bonner Ward’s total of 4,259 votes. Incumbent Probate Judge John Thornton is not seeking re-election. There are no Democratic candidates qualified in the race for the general elections in November.

Moving over to the Elmore County Commission races, one incumbent won and another district was settled without need for a runoff in a three-person race. District 1 incumbent Henry R. Hines got 1,977 votes to Byron Mulder’s 1.303.

In District 2, Brad Davis took the top spot, winning about 61 percent of the votes, with 2,094, compared to Jennifer Bennett who came in with 1,043 and Robert Brent Langley’s 310. Incumbent Mack Daugherty did not seek re-election.

The remaining three incumbent commissioners, all Republicans, were unopposed in the primary.

For the Elmore County Board of Education race for District 7, Jason Lett took the nomination with 1,973 votes compared to Justin D. Pack who collected 608 votes. Incumbent Joey Holley did not seek re-election.
