Elmira man arrested on felony weapon charge

ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM) — An Elmira man was arrested on Wednesday after police say he threatened someone and brandished a gun.

According to the Elmira Police Department, 30-year-old James E Jenkins was arrested on Wednesday, May 15, following an incident in the 300 block of South Avenue.

Heavy police presence in Gang Mills, road blocked off

Police responded to a call at 12:40 a.m. Wednesday morning for the report of an assault. Officers spoke to the victim at the Byrne Dairy on Pennsylvania Avenue and said the victim was threatened by Jenkins when he showed a gun.

Police gathered the information and were able to locate and arrest Jenkins. He was charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, a class C felony, and menacing in the second degree, a class A misdemeanor.

As of 5 a.m. on Wednesday, Jenkins awaited further processing in the Elmira City Court.
