Elkhart police respond to fatal shooting

May 26—ELKHART — The Elkhart County Homicide Unit is investigating a fatal shooting which took place Saturday evening.

Following a call made to 9-1-1, Elkhart Police Department officers dispatched at about 9:08 p.m. to a shooting with injuries in the 1000 block of Portsmouth Dr., a news release stated. The male victim, Travelle Moore, 18, Elkhart, was pronounced dead at the scene.

"An Elkhart County Sheriff's Office deputy in the area also arrived and observed a male shooting victim near a pond directly behind 1000 Portsmouth Dr.," the release stated. "Law enforcement officers rendered first aid, but the victim was pronounced deceased at the scene."

At this time, no arrests have been made, and this is an active and on-going investigation. The Elkhart County Homicide Unit was activated and took over the investigation, per protocol.
