Elizabethtown College therapy dog receives honorary “dog-gree”

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. (WHTM) – Elizabethtown College’s commencement ceremony honored not only graduates, but a furry friend who helped many along the way.

On Saturday the college presented Truman the Therapy Doodle with an honorary “dog-gree” in recognition of his 10 years of service to the college.

Truman welcomes many of the visitors to Elizabethtown College’s campus and has participated in more than 600 classes. He’s also visited more than 4,000 graduates on Commencement Day.

Truman is a member of the Keystone Pet Enhanced Therapy Services program and serves on the National Crisis Response Canine team, which responds to events such as severe weather, terrorism, school shootings, and other mass casualty incidents.

The ceremony was Elizabethtown College’s 121st Commencement with author and alumna Brianna Wiest serving as Commencement speaker.
