President Joe Biden has won the Democratic presidential primary in Kentucky.

The Associated Press called the race for Biden shortly after polls closed in the state.

Because Kentucky has one of the latest presidential primaries in the nation, Biden entered the contest Tuesday as the presumptive nominee of the Democratic Party, having already amassed more than enough delegates to clinch the win.

Biden, 81, is expected to face off against former president Donald Trump, 77, in a 2020 rematch come Election Day on Nov. 5.

In the 2020 election, Trump carried Kentucky by more than 25 percentage points over Biden, though Biden would go on to win the Electoral College votes needed to secure the presidency.

On Jan. 6, 2021, a mob of Trump supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol in an attempt to prevent Congress from certifying the results of the presidential election. Since then, more than 1,200 people have been criminally charged for the attack, and Trump faces felony allegations that he was part of a conspiracy to overturn the legitimate election results.

Biden was sworn in as the 46th president on Jan. 20, 2021. His vice president, Kamala Harris, made history as the first woman to serve in the role.

Across the nation, thousands of Democratic Primary voters has expressed their displeasure with Biden’s handling of the Israel-Hamas war by casting “uncommitted” votes. The “uncommitted” option has won 27 delegates thus far for this summer’s Democratic National Convention, according to the Associated Press’s 2024 Delegate Tracker.

Prior to the presidency, Biden served two terms as vice president under President Barack Obama, and was a U.S. Senator from Delaware for more than three decades.

Sworn in at age 78, Biden was the oldest president at the time of his inauguration. Trump, who was sworn in at age 70, is No. 2 on that list.

Biden is married to First Lady Jill Biden, and is the father of four children, two who have died.
