Elderly man attacked by transient on Main Street in Ventura
A man walking on a popular Ventura street was attacked by a homeless man shortly after sunrise Friday morning.
Officers were initially called to the 400 block of Main Street just after 6:30 a.m. because someone was breaking windows at a local restaurant, the Ventura Police Department stated in a news release.
While officers were responding to the call, another person phoned 911 after witnessing a man getting punched and robbed, the Police Department said.
Investigators learned that the victim was walking down Main Street when he was confronted by a vagrant, later identified as 39-year-old Benjamin Connors, and started to walk away.

“As the victim tried to walk away, Connors began striking the victim, knocking him down, and robbing him,” the Police Department said.
The victim, who police said was over the age of 65, sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene.
Officers located Connors a couple blocks away and took him into custody.
He was arrested and booked on suspicion of vandalism, robbery and elder abuse, according to the Police Department.
