Elba pastor speaks out about his son who was shot and killed on Valentine’s Day

ELBA, Ala. (WDHN) — A day of love turned into a day of tragedy last week for the family of Ethan Hill.

Ernest Hill, a pastor and Ethan’s father, was trying to recover after losing his father less than seven months ago but he says losing his son to gun violence is unimaginable to fathom.

“It’s an injury, it’s a wound on the inside that is hard for me to describe it, if you have never lost a son,” Hill says. “I wouldn’t wish this pain on my worst enemy he was my only son and lived with me not knowing the last time I heard him close the door he would not be coming back.”

His son, Ethan was shot and killed just one minute away from home on Jones Street on Valentine’s Day night.

“I had to go around the road and see my son lying in the road, then they cover him up with the white sheet those are the images that are in my head,” Hill said.

Since the shooting, three suspects have been arrested in his death Freddie McGhee, Lena McGhee and a minor.

Law enforcement says Hill was killed during an argument, his family is unsure of what the argument could have been about but his father says the only people who would know would be his son and the suspects.

“I’m hearing too many stories right now, to the point where when someone tries to tell me I dont want to hear it all I know is my son is dead and the ones who did it are incarcerated and I have to bury my son I’m focusing on that right now,” says Hill.

Hill says his son Ethan was dear to his heart. He played football for the Elba Tigers from 2015 to 2017 where he was a state champ and went to college for two years in Minnesota.

He described his son as a mannerable young man with a meek spirit.

“He had his faults like we all do but he didn’t bother anybody he was just easygoing,” Hill said.

Ethan Hill’s family would like to thank those who have sent them their condolences.
