El Vallarta grand reopening announced

JOPLIN, Mo. — After a fire forced the closure of a popular Mexican restaurant — nearly one year later, the owner says he’s ready to open back up to the public.

El Vallarta owner, Jesus Aguirre says the establishment — located in the Range Line Marketplace shopping center at 2330 South Range Line Road — will reopen to the public Wednesday, March 13 at 11:00 a.m.

Eleven months earlier, on April 13, 2023, a fire erupted in the kitchen area, located in the rear of the building. Since then, the Mexican restaurant has gone through the process of cleanup and restoration.

However, before he reopens the doors to the public, Aguirre wants to say ‘thank you’ to the Joplin Fire Department, whose firefighters saved not only the restaurant but the shopping center where it’s located.

“I’m really excited to reopen. I know a lot of people have been patiently waiting to come back to the restaurant. But, I think It’s important to honor and thank the firefighters who came to save our building,” said Aguirre.

On Tuesday (3/12) — the day before the grand reopening — Aguirre and the staff at El Vallarta will deliver a free lunch to firefighters — that’ll include the Mexican restaurants most popular menu items.

Aguirre says he’s also appreciative of those in the Joplin community — many of whom reached out after the fire — offering prayers and assistance to get the restaurant reopened.
