El Paso Regional Spelling Bee crowns new champion

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — A new spelling bee champ won the El Paso Independent School District’s El Paso Regional Spelling Bee Finals on Friday, March 22.

Finals took place at Bowie High School and more than 30 kids competed.

Chioma Egbuonu, an 8th grader from Saint Raphael Catholic School, took home the trophy.

Now she will go on to compete at the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington D.C.

Peter Piper Pizza, who sponsored the spelling bee event, will help pay for her travel expenses to the national competition.
