El Paso Electric to extend power lines across I-10 in far East El Paso

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – El Paso Electric (EPE) announced four overnight closures taking place within the week of Sunday, Feb. 25 in far East El Paso, as part of an infrastructure expansion project.

The closures will allow EPE to extend transmission and distribution power lines across I-10 to interconnect to a new substation.

EPE says construction will begin of the Eastlake substation to reliably meet increased energy use and demand from increased customer growth in far East El Paso.

This project will require the closure of east and westbound lanes of I-10 and Gateway Blvd. East and West. Commuters should follow detour signage and respect traffic barricades, according to EPE.

I-10 closure information:

  • 9 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 25 through 6 a.m. Monday, Feb. 26.

  • 9 p.m. Monday, Feb. 26 through 6 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 27.

  • 9 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 27 through 6 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 28.

  • 9 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 28 through 6 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 29.

  • I-10 east- and westbound lanes will be closed between Loop 375 and Horizon Blvd.

  • Gateway Blvd. East will be closed between Burgundy Dr. and Horizon Blvd.

  • Gateway Blvd. West will be closed between Horizon Blvd. and Loop 375.

  • Commuters should follow detour signage and respect traffic barricades.

Additionally, closure and traffic detours will be assisted by local law enforcement, Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) and Apache Barricade & Sign, according to EPE.
