El Dorado man jailed after brief standoff

EL DORADO, Kan. (KSNW) – An El Dorado man was arrested following a brief standoff late Saturday night.

The El Dorado Police Department says officers responded shortly before midnight to the report of a physical disturbance with shots fired in the 600 block of West Cave Springs Ave. When they arrived, they found a 33-year-old woman in the driveway who had an injury to her face, but she had not been shot.

A 30-year-old man had gone back into the house and refused to answer the door. Police say officers secured the area and called in for extra resources.

Jury convicts Newton man of rape of a child

Negotiators from the Butler County Sheriff’s Office contacted the suspect by phone and after 2 hours of negotiations, he eventually surrendered to police. Police say he has been booked into jail on charges of aggravated assault, domestic battery, and criminal discharge of a firearm.

No one else was hurt in the incident.

KSN does not name suspects until they have been formally charged.
