‘Educational adventure’: Madera Unified hosts career fair for 6th graders

MADERA, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A career pathway fair was hosted on Thursday by the Madera Unified District to provide students with information about the diverse career opportunities available within the community.

The Madera Unified Career Pathway Fair is a pivotal event for over 1,500 sixth-grade students in the district. District officials say the fair marks the culmination of a 24-week intensive study on Career Exploration across various industries and career pathways offered by the district’s three comprehensive high schools.

The district says they believe that early exposure to Career Technical Education (CTE) offerings will empower students as they transition into seventh grade, providing valuable insights into their interests and the diverse career opportunities available within the community.

“This is really important for our kids. Not as an opportunity to get a job like some career fairs are, this is more of an educational adventure for them, for the date, to really explore and find out about the career pathway options that they have in their future,” said Laura Toney, College and Career Readiness Coordinator for Madera Unified.

According to district officials, the initiative aims to educate and inspire young minds and foster meaningful connections between students, educators, and industry professionals.

“Madera Unified is all about making sure our students are aware of the multiple opportunities they have,” said Toney.

The fair was hosted at the Madera District Fair – Hatfield Hall, located at 1850 W Cleveland Avenue from 9 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. on Thursday.
