May 16—It is just a couple of weeks until the annual Ironton-Lawrence County Memorial Day Parade and a lot of people are working so that it is a success like it has been for decades.

It takes a lot of work. The parade commitee starts meeting a week after New Year's Day to decide on themes, pick people to be parade commander and get speakers for various ceremonies.

This past Friday, students from St. Joseph spread across downtown Ironton, pulling weeds and spreading mulch.

On Saturday, the Ironton Rotary Club members were up bright and early to clean up around the fountain.

Both groups have been doing this for years, quietly going out and making the town look better for the thousands of people who will attend on May 27.

We commend all those who do so much work to make Ironton and Lawrence County a better place.
