Eccentric 'Jeopardy!' champion gaining lots of fans with funny antics over 7-game winning streak

Jeopardy! has an emerging star on their hands with returning champion Austin Rodgers. The contestant entered the seventh day of competition with a very impressive $257,700 in winnings over 6 days.

Jeopardy! fans can’t stop talking about him on Twitter, and even host Alex Trebek has taken to the charismatic contestant. Trebek told viewers, “Yeah, I like his sense of humor, and I must confess, I’m in awe of this young man — our champion Austin Rogers.”

It’s easy to see why people like the bartender from New York; during today’s game he swept the first category, “Classic Pop.” He also likes to make huge wagers when landing on Daily Doubles.

Even when he’s wrong, he manages to be entertaining. Today’s final clue was “The latitude and longitude given by the narrator of this 1938 play would set it in Massachusetts, not New Hampshire.” Rogers wagered $7,000 on the answer: “Taco.”

Rogers did end up winning, and extended his winnings to $278,300. Who knows how long his winning streak will last? Hopefully for a very long time.
