EBRSO seizes fentanyl, meth, heroin, cash and guns during investigation

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — A months-long investigation by the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office concluded with the arrest of two people.

Cedrick Smith, 27, was charged with two counts of possession with the intent to distribute Schedule II drug (fentanyl), possession with the intent to distribute Schedule I drug (black tar heroin), possession with the intent to distribute Schedule II drug (powder fentanyl), possession with the intent to distribute Schedule II drug (crystal methamphetamine), possession with the intent to distribute Schedule II drug (oxycodone), possession of Schedule II drug (hydrocodone), two counts of firearm with a controlled dangerous substance, two counts of felon in possession of a firearm and drug paraphernalia.

Wilford McKneely, 46, was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and two family court warrants.

EBRSO referred to Smith as a poly-narcotics distributor.

During the investigation, agents found two homes that they suspected were used by Smith to hide and “distribute narcotics in East Baton Rouge Parish,” EBRSO said.

As the investigation unfolded, “agents successfully conducted two controlled purchases of fentanyl from Smith,” according to EBRSO.

EBRSO was able to obtain search warrants and searched two homes in the 14000 block of Felicity Drive and 7100 block of Melon Court.

Agents seized 6.01 ounces of fentanyl powder, 28.8 grams of crystal methamphetamine, 21.9 grams of black tar heroin, 79 dosage units of oxycodone prescription pills, one dosage unit of hydrocodone prescription pill, $202, Taurus G3C semi auto 9mm handgun, Glock 45 semi auto .45 cal. handgun and Century Arms M92PV semi auto 762×39 cal. AK style handgun.

Smith said whatever fentanyl was found during the investigation was his.

According to EBRSO, “Smith is on active parole until July 5, 2036, for convictions of conspiracy to commit manslaughter and distribution of buprenorphine.”

EBRSO said McKneely was convicted of possession with the intent to distribute oxycodone and possession with the intent to distribute crystal methamphetamine and had just been released from active probation.

Based on that, he was not allowed to have a gun in his home.

Smith and McKneely were booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on the day of their arrest.
