Eastside Day brings family, friends together on Easter

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Hundreds of people gathered to celebrate Easter and Eastside Day in Rosewood Neighborhood Park in east Austin Sunday.

Event organizers Antony Jackson and “Skip” Thomas said Eastside Day is a way to gather with community members and get to know new people.

“Me and my brother Skip are from this community,” said Jackson. “We grew up coming to this park and through gentrification we have not seen our people outside and fellowshiping like we are used to, so my brother Skip and I with ‘Anything’s Baked Potatoes’ and ‘We Can Now’ wanted to put together an event and also allow other business owners and non-profits in the city, that this community means a great deal to, to also be a part of it.”

More than 10,000 eggs were scattered throughout the park for kids. The event also had DJ’s, food trucks, dance-offs and a car show.

“It is good to see a lot of kids smiling and happy, a lot of the old folks smiling and happy, so it is real good for the community,” Thomas said.

Both organizers hope to continue the event next year as well.
