Both directions of bridge traffic will be carried on the westbound span, with one outgoing lane reserved for eastbound traffic heading into Canada, becoming two lanes after center span. One outgoing lane will be reserved for westbound traffic heading into the U.S. and becoming two lanes after center span. MDOT is coordinating this work with maintenance the Federal Bridge Corporation Limited will complete to reduce impacts to customers.

While the westbound span carries both directions of traffic, the following should be expected:

  • Dedicated lanes for commuter pass holders and buses cannot be accommodated.

  • Wide loads will be restricted to less than 10 feet.

Work is expected to be completed by October.

"The vital rehabilitation work, much of which will occur beneath the bridge, is key to ensuring our high standards of safety and efficiency. By actively managing disruptions, including extending work hours into nights and weekends, we aim to manage the project’s timeline effectively," the Federal Bridge Corporation Limited said in a statement. "Our joint efforts with the Michigan Department of Transportation are vital, enabling the execution of crucial maintenance activities on both sides of the border with considered measures to manage traffic flow."
