HARRISON COUNTY, Texas (KETK) – A man was sentenced to 30 years in prison in a Harrison County court on Wednesday after being convicted of possession of fentanyl.

Brian Okeith Tucker, 41, was arrested in January 2022 after a traffic stop by Marshall PD where “officers smelled marijuana and conducted a search of the vehicle.”

According to a release from the district attorney’s office, Tucker was pulled over after officers saw him driving a car and were aware he did not have a valid driver’s license.

“As officers searched the vehicle, they initially discovered ecstasy pills in the center console and later discovered a small safe that contained six jars of marijuana and two pill bottles containing 157 pills falsely labeled as hydrocodone,” the release said. “Subsequent testing of the pills revealed that they were actually fentanyl.”

Patrol officers gave testimony at Tucker’s trial where the release said they told jurors they were very familiar with Tucker in the past and he had never had a valid license in those previous interactions. Jurors were also told Tucker had two previous drug convictions in 2016.

“Assistant District Attorney Brendan Roth stated that it is hoped that this verdict does send a strong message to the drug dealers of Harrison County that those who choose to deal narcotics in here, will be vigilantly investigated and prosecuted,” the release said.
