East Tennessee State University competing for Top Adventure College in the Southeast

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (WJHL) — East Tennessee State University (ETSU) has advanced to the third round of the Blue Ridge Outdoors’ Top Adventure College Tournament, and voting is open now.

This six-week bracket-style tournament determines the “Top Adventure College in the Southeast.”

The Top Adventure College must be committed to outdoor and environmental programs, clubs and curricula, the university said in a release. The college must offer local opportunities for adventure.

“ETSU sits in one of the most diverse outdoor recreation areas in the East, and we strive to take full advantage of those opportunities,” said Eric Brown, assistant director of Campus Recreation.

ETSU offers a variety of outdoor adventures, such as the following, provided by the release:

  • Climbing wall

  • Aerial Adventure Course

  • Nine-hole disc golf course

  • Tennis courts

  • Field Complex

  • The University’s Woods Trail system and more

In addition, ETSU is surrounded by state and national parks where students can hike, backpack, kayak and more.

“We also provide education opportunities through skills clinics and all the gear someone would need to take a trip of their own,” said Brown.

Aiming for a back-to-back title, the release said the university is now one of eight remaining teams. There are two more tournament rounds: the final four and the championship.

Those interested in voting for ETSU as the Top Adventure College in the Southeast can do so here.
