Earthquake reported in Pennsylvania

(WHTM)– An earthquake was reported in Pennsylvania on Friday.

According to Earthquake Track’s website, there was a 2.4 magnitude earthquake reported in Berks County just after 4:30 p.m.

So far, there have been a total of 27 reports of the earthquake that was found to have originated in Lincoln Park, more specifically at 40.321°N 75.975°W, which is close to Reading, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS).

The depth of the earthquake is 8 km, according to the USGS. Since the magnitude of the earthquake was below 2.5, it is “usually not felt, but can be recorded by seismograph,” Michigan Technological University’s website states.

Earlier in April, there was a 4.7 magnitude earthquake in Lebanon, New Jersey that was also felt in Pennsylvania and even New York.

The Midstate area has also seen some earthquakes in the past. In February 2020, there were two earthquake shakes in Dover, York County. The first measured at a 1.6 magnitude on February 2 and another one was felt on February 3 measuring at 1.8 on the Richter scale.
