Early voting for local elections begins Thursday

Mar. 24—Early voting begins Thursday, March 28 for the Norman Board of Education Seat 4 election and the Norman City Council Ward 2 runoff.

Almost every other school district in Cleveland County will see Board of Education seats filled with unopposed filings. According to the Cleveland County Election Board, voters in the far northwest part of the county — precinct 100 — will have a say in a Canadian Valley Technology Center school board race.

Dean Riddell and Cotton Ruzicka are the candidates for Canadian Valley Tech.

Running for Norman school board is Dawn Brockman, an administrator at the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma, and Scott Christian a commercial lender.

Norman's city council runoff is between Matt Peacock and Russell Rice. Rice led the first election with 32.7 percent of the vote. Peacock received 27.4 percent.

The in-person absentee, or early, voting will be 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday and Friday at the Cleveland County Election Board, 641 E. Robinson, Suite 200. Polls will be open from 7 a.m to 7 p.m. on April 2.

County Offices up or election

The filing period for state elections, and the county offices will be April 3-5.

Up for election in Cleveland County is Sheriff, County Clerk, Court Clerk and Commissioner Seat 2.

Those running for county offices will file at the Cleveland County Election Board. Those running for state offices or state or federal legislative seat will file at the Oklahoma State Election Board. State Senate seats in odd-numbered districts are up for election, along with all State Representative seats and one of the Corporation Commissioner seats.

The Primary Election for those races will be June 18. The General Election will be on the same ballot as the Presidential Election, Nov. 5.

Changing teams

People looking to change party affiliation in time for the June primary only have until the month ends to do so. April 1 through Aug. 31 is a dead period for party swapping in even-numbered years.
