Early Home-Runs and Late Game Pitching Seals the Victory for Gorillas over #9 Lions

PITTSBURG, Ks — Earlier Saturday afternoon, the Pitt State Gorillas held off #9 Missouri Southern to win game two, 5-4. They have now evened up the series at 1-1.

Recap —

Pitt State got off to a fast start thanks to a 2-run homer by Dylan Kurahashi-Choy Foo and a solo homer by Austin Warkins to jump out to the 3-0 lead.

In the third inning, Treghan Parker grounded out but was able to score a run to get MSSU on the scoreboard.

Nate Mieszkowski came up big in the 5th inning after a 3-RBI double gave the Lions the lead 4-3.

Pitt State answered in the bottom of the 5th after Blake Mozley tripled to score Joe Hamilton to tie the game at 4-4.

Then, in the bottom of the 7th, Nixon Brannan singled to right field to score Mozley and Pitt State took the lead, 5-4.

Reliever Cole Askew came in and shut down the Lions in the 9th striking out Treghan Parker to end it.

Stats —

Cadyn Castellanos picked up the win after going; 3.0 IP, 1 H, 0 ER and one strikeout.

Castellanos is now 4-1 on the year for the Gorillas.

Cole Askew got his 3rd save of the year only allowing one hit and striking out a batter in the 9th.

Mieszkowski was 1-for-4 with 3 RBI’s.

Pitt State and #9 Missouri Southern will square off tomorrow at noon to decide who will take the series.
