Brock Glenn’s development over the next few years will determine his future at Florida State.

However, the freshman quarterback made a favorable first impression in Saturday’s spring scrimmage.

With Seminoles starter and Heisman Trophy candidate Jordan Travis given off by coach Mike Norvell, FSU’s backup quarterbacks split time in the first of two spring scrimmages.

Redshirt junior Tate Rodemaker and sophomore AJ Duffy shared the majority of the first-team reps.

The pair is expected to provide quality depth behind Travis due to experience and familiarity with the offense. Rodemaker has played in 14 games, with one start in 2020, while Duffy played in three games last season.

"Obviously, we made we made Jordan unavailable (Saturday)," Norvell said following the scrimmage.

"He's been practicing at an elite level throughout the first five practices. It was good for him to get a little bit different perspective. It was good to see those other guys get close to 40 reps, between 30 and 40 reps apiece, and it was good. The guys around you, it doesn't really matter who's taking the snap, you better go out there and play your best."

Brock Glenn: 'Way, way, way, way better...'

Glenn, meanwhile, should be finishing his senior year at Lausanne Collegiate School in Covington, Tennessee.

He led Lausanne to eight wins and advanced to quarterfinal round of Tennessee High School Division II Class AA playoffs last fall, accounting for more than 4,500 yards of total offense and 68 touchdowns during prep career.

Glenn signed with FSU in December after he decommitted from Ohio State and enrolled in January.

Glenn, a 6-foot-2, four-star prospect was the No. 13 quarterback nationally and No. 7 overall prospect in Tennessee by 247Sports, has been focused on learning the Seminoles’ playbook and system.

Norvell – pushing for healthy competition between the quarterbacks - was pleased with Glenn’s play.

“The maturity that he brings to the field, for still being a high school senior, it was impressive,” Norvell said.

“He made some really good throws, put the ball in a good spot. Made some throws that he's going to have to learn from. Obviously, just trusting progressions and some of the decisions, but that's all to be expected in the first scrimmage. But for him to come out and operate the way that he did. Very intelligent."

“The composure he brought to the field was something that I was impressed with.”

FSU offensive coordinator Alex Atkins was impressed, too, saying, “So he had flying bullets at him and he handled it way, way, way, way better than I expected him to.”

FSU returns for its seventh spring practice Tuesday.
