A Fourth of July baseball game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Baltimore Orioles got off to a rough start. Well, rough for the humans, not for the bald eagle they let fly through the stadium.

Because as "America the Beautiful" played on, the eagle grew a bit too excited about the idea of Independence Day. He flew past his trainer and liberated himself from the stadium, presumably off to catch a fish in his claws like a true American.

Here's another angle of Chinook the eagle pulling his symbolically glorious but practically problematic stunt.

Unfortunately for the eagle, he never made it very far. Just like the American revolutionaries who laid down their arms to wait for the British to recapture them, the eagle perched by his trainer's van and has now been returned to the Los Angeles Zoo.

But hey, there's always next year, and another chance for freedom. And now the eagle has a year to plan ahead.
