Gamers who are Star Wars fans will have a lot to look forward to at Star Wars Celebration next month.
Publisher Electronic Arts announced Wednesday it will debut the first official trailer for Star Wars: Battlefront II on April 15 at 2:30 p.m. ET. The trailer and first look at Battlefront II will be hosted by developers from DICE, Criterion and Motive and will also be livestreamed through the official Star Wars site.
A sequel to Star Wars: Battlefront wasn’t in serious doubt — EA talked about plans for a sequel in a call with investors last fall — but Wednesday’s announcement officially confirms the game and its title.
Few Star Wars: Battlefront II release date details are available, but EA said that it plans to pull additional resources for downloadable content from the current series of Star Wars films. Like with the first Battlefront game, it launched with content exclusively from the original film series, but eventually included campaigns and characters from The Force Awakens and Rogue One .
Originally released in 2015, Star Wars: Battlefront is a multiplayer-based first-person shooter that draws heavily from the Star Wars film franchise. As with other multiplayer shooters like the Battlefield franchise, matches can feature up to 40 players at one time. The current incarnation of the series is also a reboot for the Battlefront franchise, which originally launched in 2004 and appeared on the original Xbox and PlayStation 2.
