E-bike rider killed in crash with SUV driver in Brooklyn

A 49-year-old e-bike driver was killed in a collision with an SUV at a Brooklyn intersection, police said Thursday.

The victim was heading south on Fourth Ave. in Sunset Park when he collided with a northbound Chevrolet Silverado whose driver was turning left onto 53rd St. about 9:10 a.m. Wednesday, cops said.

Medics rushed the victim, who suffered severe head and body injuries, to nearby NYU Langone Hospital-Brooklyn but he could not be saved. His name was not immediately released.

The 40-year-old SUV driver remained at the scene. He was not immediately charged but police are still investigating.

The city Department of Transportation earlier this year announced a new e-bike safety campaign. Last year, 23 e-bike riders were killed compared to seven killed while riding traditional pedal-powered bicycles.
