E-470 crash victim remembered as avid fisherman who made a lasting impact

DENVER (KDVR) — The family of a man killed in a crash on E-470 Monday has identified him as 50-year-old Jeremy Inouye.

On Monday, Colorado State Patrol told FOX31 the crash happened at 5:45 a.m. on the southbound Interstate 25 on-ramp to E-470. Investigators said the driver of a Toyota 4-Runner was involved in aggressive behavior with multiple vehicles, including a white sedan, moments before the crash along I-25 near E-470.

Investigators say the SUV rolled and then hit a Tacoma. Inouye’s family said he was the driver of that Tacoma.

His family said it’s still sinking in that he’s gone.

“When it’s something sudden, I don’t know if it’s easier or harder. It’s a huge shock. It’s a numbing feeling,” said Inouye’s sister, Tammie Cagle.

His family said Inouye was a huge outdoorsman with a center on fishing and a huge advocate for catch and release. They say he was loved by many, never met a stranger and always brought joy to those he was around.

“Just his presence was 100% joy. His presence was everything. You were in a good place when Jeremy was there,” Cagle said.

“I’ll miss having somebody to call and be the voice of reason, because no matter how panicked I am or if I call him crying, he’s always there to calm me down or if I’m sick, he’s that person of comfort,” said his daughter, Mariah.

The family said fellow fishermen have been coming forward to share their condolences. They say they truly did not know the impact he had on that community.

“He really liked to invest himself into the fishing community. He did a lot of ice fishing tournaments and taught a lot of people how to fish,” Mariah said.

Charges have not been filed and investigators say they are looking for the white sedan that was involved.

A GoFundMe campaign has been set up to help family members with expenses.
