Dylan Sprouse Recalled His and Cole's Auditions for "School of Rock" and They Didn't Go Too Well

But at least he's looking back at it with some good humor.

It's no secret that Dylan and Cole Sprouse have been legends in the entertainment industry since they starred in Big Daddy at just 7 years old. Since then, the twins have, of course, starred in The Suite Life of Zack & Cody, and Cole currently plays Jughead in Riverdale. Suffice it to say, they've done well for themselves. But they haven't been offered every job they auditioned for — in fact, Dylan revealed that he totally bombed a tryout for School of Rock.

"I must have been having a bad day, because the audition just said ‘Please prepare a song,’” Dylan told MTV.com. “We walked in, I actually walked in first before Cole, and they said, ‘Hi, what did you prepare today? Can you sing?’ and I looked at them and I was like ‘no.’” When the producers asked if he could at least sing "Happy Birthday," Dylan said he refused, despite the fact that he was auditioning to be part of Jack Black's band of middle-schoolers.

According to Dylan, Cole faired a bit better, though he decided to rap instead of sing, which "brightened up" Dylan's day "significantly." Despite the unique choice, Cole got a callback while Dylan did not. "The amazing thing is that he suggested [rapping] to our mom for a movie named School of Rock and she was totally OK with it. She was like 'You be you, honey.'"

Despite the fact that the Sprouse brothers might not regularly appear on a show together anymore, they do still collaborate. "Cole and I proofread and bounce ideas off each other 24/7," the 25-year-old previously said. "It doesn’t ever really stop, whether or not it’s an audition tape or whether or not it's even a tweet or whether or not it's reading my script or 'tell me what you think of this character.' ... This stuff happens 24/7, so we are currently working together." Let's hope that the two have polished up their audition techniques in the past fifteen years.
