Dying Star Wars fan to get special Jedi screening
A US Air Force veteran who is dying of cancer will be shown Star Wars: The Last Jedi at a special screening as one of his dying wishes.
Ron Villemaire, 69 - who has been a Star Wars fan for 40 years - is in hospice care in Bedford, New Hampshire, and isn't able to get to a cinema to see the film, which was released in the US today, The AP reports.
His daughter had bought tickets for a screening in the hope that her dad could make it, but they are unable to travel as the pain from Ron's stage 4 colon cancer has got worse.
"So there's going to be three empty seats in that movie theater because I'm not going to go see it without my dad," she told WMUR9 earlier this week.
Ron said: "I would love more than anything to see it because I am a die-hard Star Wars junkie and I have been ever since the very first movie came out in '77.
"Oh my God, I'd do anything to be able to see that movie, anything. Nothing would make me happier. That would be something to take with me."
And now that will happen, at least, thanks to the Bedford and New Boston fire departments.
New Boston Fire Chief Dan MacDonald said: "We decided to partner to make his dream come true."
Tomorrow (December 16), they'll take him from the hospice to a cinema where he'll be transferred into a special hospital bed.
Professionals will be close by during the screening should Ron need any medical attention.
They'll also be joined by Ron's family and friends, USAF reps thanking him for his service - and actors dressed as Darth Vader and Stormtroopers, too.
