This dying author just wrote a heartbreaking dating profile for her husband

The “Modern Love” column in The New York Times typically tugs at your heartstrings in honest, and sometimes, unexpected ways, but this March 3rd piece is sure to have you tearing up. In “You May Want to Marry My Husband,” an author writes a dating profile for her husband of 26 years. While it’s unorthodox, best-selling author Amy Krouse Rosenthal has terminal ovarian cancer and doesn’t have much time to live. So, as she writes in her truly heartbreaking article, this is her way of allowing another love story to begin.

As a writer of children’s books and adult books, a filmmaker, and a contributor to TED and NPR, Amy has had a positive impact on so many people. But her “Modern Love” article isn’t focused on her — it’s about her husband Jason Brian Rosenthal, a lawyer based out of Chicago. She says how when they met in 1989 on a blind date, set up by a mutual friend, she instantly knew that he was the one. They’ve been together since then and were devastated by her cancer diagnosis on September 5th, 2015.

While Amy is an astounding person in her own right, she thinks that you should really get to know her husband. She outlines how her handsome husband dresses well, is handy, loves music, and is a talented artist and cook. She wrote:

She’s right — Jason certainly does sound dreamy.

He’s also “an absolutely wonderful father” to their children. She wrote how he brought flowers to the ultrasound of their first pregnancy. And on Sunday mornings, he surprises Amy by using kitchen items — like bananas, spoons, or mugs — to make a smiley face next to the coffee pot.

If you are a fan of Amy’s writing, then you knew about Jason before, since she does mention him in her work (including her “memoir-y” books). She also says how she knew her husband was the one in this 2010 TEDx talk at 6:42.

And in her first YouTube video ever, she showed a picture of her and her husband kissing on their wedding day.

While her Modern Love story may be her way of blessing any romances that happen for Jason in the future, anyone reading her beautifully-written and completely devastating words knows that their love is something special that only happens once in a lifetime.

Because even though everyone wants a Jason in their lives, everyone also deserves an Amy. And when the day comes that this talented artist does pass, the world will have lost a beautifully creative force. But at least she and her husband have seemed to embody the message of her short film, “The Beckoning of Lovely,” throughout their lives together, which was: “Make the most of your time here.”
